My Checkup

On Monday, September 11, 2006, Zoe had her checkup with her ear, nose and throat specialist, Dr. Werkhaven, at Vanderbilt. For those of you who don't know, Zoe was born with a cyst on her tongue. Basically, when cells are dividing and making a baby sometimes "left over" cells clump together and make what amounts to a "skin tag." They commonly appear on the tongue, gums, feet and hands. Anyway, when Zoe was born it was pretty big; however, it didn't affect her eating and she has continued to do well. We first saw Dr. Werkhaven on July 6, 2006 and the cyst had shrunk a considerable amount by the time we had that appointment. When we had this past appointment, we learned that Zoe's cyst had shrunk even more....to the point that we don't even notice it anymore. Dr. Werkhaven was thrilled with Zoe's cyst and we have decided on a "wait and see" approach. Ideally, it would be great if it would just fall off, which could possibly happen. More than likely, we will have to have it cut off at Vanderbilt. Mark and I have decided that we are in no hurry to have it cut off. Medically, there isn't a reason to. It is more of a cosmetic issue now. It doesn't bother us, it doesn't bother her and we've decided to wait until after her first birthday if we have to get it cut off. We are in no hurry to have her put under general anesthesia. It just isn't necessary at this point. Anyway, just wanted to update everyone. Since I'm at work, I don't have any pictures to post......I'll take care of that later!
