Zoe and I went to The Monkey's Treehouse on Saturday since Mark was out of town hunting. Anyway, we met April and her daughter, Elizabeth, and Christina and her son, Mason. The kids played for three solid hours and you can't beat it. I think I paid $7.61 for three hours of fun. Pretty solid, huh? Anyway, I did a slide show of my pictures from the day; however, these are a few of my favorite pics.

How to Cook a Turkey

My darling husband has been watching the Food Network incessantly because they are showing recipes for Thanksgiving. Every time I come up to the bonus room he says, "Look baby, they're making a pumpkin pie out of sweet potatoes." You get the picture. Anyway, one of my best buds did a post from one of her twin girls about how you should cook a turkey. I laughed so hard I cried. Anyway, this is for you Mark. You didn't need to watch the Food Network.....you only needed to ask a six year old!

Today we had an appointment with a pediatric opthamologist, Dr. Robert L. Estes, at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute. I had noticed that Zoe had a problem with her right eye. Mark thought I was crazy, but I had noticed that her eye would turn outward; however, she would turn it back in very quickly. Mark had never seen her do it either so he really thought I was crazy! It didn't happen all the time either, but tended to happen more when she was very tired or very upset. And I noticed it more toward the end of the day. Anyway, I asked our pediatrician about it and she referred us to one of her colleagues, Dr. Eric Groos, with Cornea Consultants of Nashville. He did diagnose her with what I felt sure she was having, which was exotropia. He is not specialized for pediatrics, but he did confirm the diagnosis and made me feel somewhat better because he said Zoe had a slight case and only needed to see Dr. Estes prior to the end of the year. It was certainly difficult to get in to see Dr. Estes (he's supposed to be one of the tops in the field) and we had to wait for two months to get in to see him. Needless to say, there was NO WAY I was missing this appointment.

Anyway, I have to brag on Dr. Estes and Vanderbilt. I had an individual tell me he had no personality and that we wouldn't enjoy our visit. But, I should be thankful because I was seeing "the top guy" when it came to pediatric eye problems. I'm glad that individual was wrong and that Mark and I were pleasantly surprised. He was such a nice man and was WONDERFUL with Zoe. She really liked him. And his staff was wonderful, too. She actually enjoyed going to the doctor and when I took her to my work to show her off afterward, she told everyone about it. It was too cute. Dr. Estes did diagnose Zoe with Intermittent Exotropia. Come to find out, my Dad has the same condition with one of his eyes (the opposite one of Zoe) and his baby brother was actually born with his eyes crossed, a condition known as Esotropia. I was really hoping to blame this problem on Mark and his side of the family, but no such luck! (Love Ya, Honey....Just Kidding!) Dr. Estes said that we would just watch this for now and that Zoe had a very mild case of it. He said that her vision was perfect and not affected by this occurrence. He said if I noticed it happening more frequently to come back sooner; however, he only wanted to keep a watch and see her back between 6 and 12 months. So, we made an appointment to see him again in nine months. We did ask if this ever required surgery and he informed us that it is on the rare side that surgery is required in instances like Zoe's. He said, "There are some doctors out there who would tell you you had to have surgery, but they probably need to make a payment on their BMW or something." It was pretty comical to say the least.

I just want to praise God for good news and for watching over us. Plus, Mark had been having a few issues with his bloodwork and had a recheck done last week. We got those results yesterday and all is well with him, too. I had my yearly physical a few days ago and everything came back great with me! God has been VERY good to The Lawrence Family!

Zoe's Day at the Park.....That Made Me Mad....

I bought Zoe some Ugg boots the other day......okay, I'm not completely insane! I want my daughter to look cute and trendy, but I'm not about to buy her a pair of real Ugg boots for $150.00 plus dollars! I found these at Target and while they're not Ugg boots, Zoe thinks they are the greatest boots EVER! She thinks she's too cute wearing them and I must confess....I think she's the cutest thing ever! Can you believe how tall this child is? She completely towers over other two year olds! She has to get it from her Daddy because she for sure doesn't have my nubs. Thank God!

A Day at the Park with Daddy

Zoe's day care, McKendree, closes four times per year for teacher training and continuing education. They close once in the Spring, once during the Summer and for two consecutive days each November so the teachers can attend a national conference for early childhood education. I think it's awesome that they are interested in attending a conference on a national level (it's in Dallas, Texas this year). Anyway, Daddy took off work on Thursday and took Zoe to the park. They had a ball as you can see by the pictures below......

How Do You Make an Elmo Fanatic's Day?

By purchasing an Elmo Halloween costume on clearance and letting her wear it around the house for two days. We almost didn't get it off of her to take her bath or go to bed! I also purchased another Halloween costume on clearance to give to Zoe for Christmas. Our child LOVES to play dress up and it will make a great Christmas present!

Help!

This large container holds all of Zoe's stuffed animals. Anyway, she likes to dump it out, get inside the empty container and have you put all of her stuffed animals back in the container on top of her. She asked Daddy to get in the container and she began to pile all of her animals on top of him. She also put her Doggy Puppet on top of his head! First, can you say this picture is hysterical? Secondly, can you say that Zoe has entirely too many stuffed animals?!? Mark's such a good Daddy!

My First Pumpkin Carving

We haven't actually carved a pumpkin for Zoe. The first year she was extremely sick with the beginning of breathing treatments. Last year we were trying to keep her well and decided to just let her color one with markers. So, this year we carved one and Zoe had a blast doing it, although she didn't like touching the "stuff" from the pumpkin. And ignore the pen behind Mark's ear....it's a habit since he's constantly sticking one behind his ear all day long at work. Too funny!

Our great friends Lisa & Rich and their daughter, Ava, had a huge Halloween party this past Friday. Mark took his 4-wheeler over and all the kids rode around the subdivision in a wagon attached thereto to do their actual trick or treating. It was a blast and the kids LOVED it. For all of my tens of readers out there, I sat in the back with another mommy and watched the kids and the wagon was perfectly safe. This is a picture of farmer Mark and Kitty Cat Zoe. I was dressed up like Dolly Parton, but I don't have a good picture of me to post. I have to say I was pretty funny myself! Enjoy!

My First Deer Call

Daddy gave Zoe her first deer call and it's pretty funny to watch her call with it. I don't understand why she has to "blow first" before she actually blows the call, but it's her thing. Too cute. She'll be a great deer hunter yet.

I've learned how to be frugal from one of my best buds, Shelley. She is the queen of being frugal; however, I think she would even be amazed at my purchase. I've been trying to buy a comforter set for my spare bedroom, but I just didn't want to come off the money during these economic times. Anyway, I found this set in the clearance aisle and had to take a picture so I could brag. Plus, I didn't think anyone would believe me. I'm sure Shelley would share a lesson in frugality for a fee!

And in case you can't read the price tag, the original price was $79.98 and I got it for $19.98! Yes......that's a savings of 75%! I'm so excited!

I bought Zoe these houseshoes at Target and when I brought them home, she insisted on stripping naked and putting them on. Hysterical! Isn't it funny how she knew to "cover" herself for the picture? That child never ceases to amaze me.

My girlfriend April's little girl just celebrated her second birthday at Honeysuckle Hill Farm and it was a GREAT place for a birthday party! We had so much fun! Enjoy the pictures and I highly recommend taking your children there because they will love it!

This picture was too cute not to share. I have a feeling Shyla and Zoe are going to be lifelong friends just like Shyla's mommy and I. I can't tell you how happy I am that Julie and I are getting to experience the miracle of raising our children together. I couldn't ask for a better friend and I know our girls will be the same. It's so amazing that our girls are only 10 months apart.

One of my best friends, Lisa, had her daughter's fourth birthday party at Monkey's Treehouse. We had such a great time with Ava and all of her friends. I know I shared with you previously that we had attended a birthday party for one of my other best friends, Julie's, daughter Shyla. Anyway, this place is a child's paradise! If you have never gone, I highly recommend taking your child.....at least they can run off some energy!

Zoe and I have been taking a class every Saturday at The Nashville Zoo called Zoo Twos. We have had a blast and this past Saturday Nana & Papa went with us. I gave the camera over to Nana and she took some great pictures. Zoe got to meet Brooke, a two toed sloth, and Glory, a Hhyacinth Macaw. Zoe loved Brooke (she thought she was a monkey), but she absolutely hated Glory. It was too funny. Enjoy the pictures!

These are a Few of My Favorite Things

My birthday was Friday, September 26, 2008. Yes, I turned 33 years old. All I can say is I definitely don't feel 33 and I just pray that I keep on having them! This birthday was the best ever (well, behind the birthday I celebrated after having Zoe)! My parents came down for the weekend as a special gift to Mark and I. They decided that we needed a night out and that they needed some time with their Zoe. They were scheduled to come down on Saturday morning; however, when we got home from work they were sitting on our front porch. And my mom had made me my favorite cake! I had been asking for this cake, but it takes a long time to make so she hadn't made it for quite some time. I actually got it for my birthday! It's called a burnt sugar cake and it is phenominal! Anyway, Daddy and Zoe made me a cake on Thursday evening and I absolutely loved it. I got lots of great things for my birthday and wanted to share them with you below:

This is the cake Daddy & Zoe made me for my birthday. This is the best birthday present Mark and Zoe could have ever given me. I loved it and I loved watching them make it. Now, it definitely will become a tradition for Daddy & Zoe to make Mommy a birthday cake. And let me just say that that cake tasted AWESOME! Mark could open a bakery! It's a good thing he doesn't bake like that a lot around here because my butt would become as big as my car!
My parents gave Mark and I the best present ever because we got to have a date night this past Saturday night. We went out to eat and then went to the movies! Plus, my husband actually took me to see Nights in Rodanthe. If you have never read a Nicholas Sparks novel, I highly recommend him. He's a phenominal writer and, yes, it was a total chick flick. But Mark didn't care and took me to see it because that's what I wanted. He's pretty awesome, isn't he?

This is such an awesome gift from Mark and Zoe. It's a spa package for a massage, pedicure, manicure and facial! I'm going to schedule some Saturday to get totally pampered! How awesome is that? I can't wait to use it! I also have to add that Mark bought me a new flat iron (not a cheap one either) and a new purse!

Besides giving Mark and I a chance to spend some time together, my parents bought me an iPod. I had asked for money to contribute toward buying one, but they went ahead and bought it for me! Yes, I realize I'm a little behind the times with this being my first one (Okay A LOT BEHIND THE TIMES because my Dad actually bought one before I had one), but I'm so excited to use it. Now, I have to get the adapter for my car so I don't have to switch CDs again! AWESOME!

For those of you that don't know, I'm a total history buff and I love movies and period pieces. Anyway, I had heard that The Tudors was a pretty phenominal show on Showtime so I had asked Mark for it for my birthday. I can't wait to begin watching it!

These are flowers I received Friday afternoon from my girlfriend, Nikki, and her boys. They are beautiful, although I don't think this picture does them justice. Plus, I guess I should've taken the picture before Monday night, three days after receiving them. But, they are beautiful and it was such a sweet and thoughtful gift. And I love the bucket they were delivered in and Zoe has already had her eye on that bucket. It will be cute for her to play with!

And what would a birthday be without a gift to myself?!? I went to see the Sex & The City movie with one of my best buds, Shelley, and we LOVED it. I was a huge fan of the series and this came out a few days before my birthday. Of course, I just HAD TO HAVE IT!

I got this gift card from my boss, Todd. He's pretty awesome and knows exactly what stores I love to shop in. He couldn't have gotten me anything better!

Plus, Todd walked into the office with this camo balloon! I totally lost it and laughed so hard. I think he bought this more for himself and for Mark, but I love the balloon and now he has to find me a camo balloon every year for my birthday!

I also got great cards from co-workers and was taken to lunch by one of my other bosses, Tom Corts. It was a blast. I also got a $50.00 gift card from my new boss, Britton, but I didn't get to take a picture of it since Mark and I used it on Saturday evening! Oh, and my great sister-in-law and brother-in-law sent me an awesome card, too. It's one that talks to you so you can only imagine how much I laughed at that one. Plus, Rosann got me a card that sings and I kept opening it to play it so I could do the Conga! I think it's safe to say that I had a wonderful birthday!

Can You Say Slacker Blogger?

That's me! Hi! My name is Courtney and I'm a slacker blogger! I can't believe I haven't posted about our little Zoe before now, but things have been rather hectic in the Lawrence house. First, Zoe has been sick. She woke up around 1:30 a.m. on September 10th and was running a fever. It never got really high (100.4), but I still don't like it when she runs one. Yes, I realize that it's the body's response to fighting infection, blah blah blah, but I still don't like it at all! They make me nervous! Anyway, I got her back to bed and when she woke up around 6:00 a.m., she had developed a cough. That is NEVER a good sign for our Zoe as she tends to progress rather quickly with these things. So, I took her to the pediatrician on the 10th and they said her ears were good and that she was not wheezing in any way. However, by the weekend Zoe was REALLY congested and sounded like a 60 year old man that had smoked for more than 40 years. I took her back to the pediatrician on the 15th and she still had not developed a wheeze, which is awesome. Dr. Beveridge felt like Zoe had built up a tolerance to her Zyrtec and she switched her to Allegra. We've been trying that out and it seems to be drying up her cough, etc. Praise God! Now, Mommy has gotten sick with whatever Zoe had and feels a little under the weather (I say "little" using my most sarcastic voice). I now have the horrid cough, but I've been drinking Robitussin DM and it seems to be breaking up everything! Again....Praise God!

Zoe and I have been taking a class at the Nashville Zoo called "Zoo Twos" and it is awesome! We love it! The class is every Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 and we do art, have story time, snack time and meet some animals each week. The first week we met a screech owl and a bearded dragon. Zoe loved both and actually got to touch the bearded dragon. Last week she got to touch a possum and saw a toad. She thought both were rather cool! I love it that Zoe and I are getting to do this class together. Deer hunting is getting ready to come in full swing (bow season) on September 27th and Zoe and I needed something to do rather than staying in the house all weekend! We let Daddy crash our class last weekend, but we'll be going to all the next ones by ourselves. We will miss Daddy terribly (he's a blast), but it's good for Zoe and Mommy to have something to do together! I will most pictures once I download them off my camera!

I guess I can relinquish the title of "Slacker Blogger" now and pass it along to one of my best buds, Shelley! Poor Shelley has started back to work since the twins have started kindergarten. Plus, her husband has been working on this huge project and been putting in a lot of overtime hours. She's exhausted and I'm sure the last thing she wants to do is Blog, but I miss her humor! Please, please, please pass the title along to someone else, Shelley!
